Privacy notice

The platform is operated by carparks.je (Oliver Buterbaugh, United Kingdom), who is the controller for the personal data described here. This notice covers the platform only: the public website and the mobile apps have their own.

What we hold about you

Your account: your email address, your name (if one was provided when you were added), your organisation and your role. Access is by invitation only, so this data exists because you or your organisation asked for access.
Usage records: which pages and features you use and when, your organisation and role, coarse browser information (language, time zone, viewport size) and a random identifier stored in your browser. We do not record what you type, and the usage stream never contains your email address or name. Because the platform serves a small number of people, these records are pseudonymous rather than anonymous: we could connect them to you, and we are telling you so plainly.
Email: sign-in links, and only the alerts you switch on yourself (sensor incidents, the weekly summary). Every alert email carries a working unsubscribe.
Server logs: standard infrastructure logs (including IP addresses) held transiently by our cloud provider for security and debugging.

Why, and on what basis

We use this data to run the service, keep it secure, understand which parts of it are genuinely useful, and improve it. Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) we rely on legitimate interests for usage records and security, and on providing the service you requested for account and email data.

What we do not do

No advertising, no sale or sharing of data, no third-party analytics or tracking scripts, no cookies beyond what sign-in and your theme preference require. Analytics are collected first-party and go straight to our own database.

Where it lives and how long

Data is processed on Google Cloud (Firebase) infrastructure, with our primary databases in European regions, and transactional email is delivered by Resend from EU infrastructure. Usage records are kept for up to 24 months, then deleted or reduced to aggregates. Account data is kept while you have access and removed when access is revoked.

Your rights

UK data protection law gives you rights of access, correction, deletion and objection. Write to oliver@carparks.je and you will get a substantive answer, quickly. If you are unhappy with it, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Changes

If this notice changes materially, the date above changes and platform users are told by email.
